This webinar was hosted by Windustry and the Great Lakes Regional Wind Energy Institute with support from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory on May 18, 2010. The webinar provided a discussion of discuss environmental assessments for land-based wind energy development in and near communities along the Great Lakes.

Detroit, MI - The Great Lakes Renewable Energy Society presents the 2010 Michigan Wind Energy Conference at the Cobo Center in Detroit. Wind energy is expected to bring major economic and environmental benefits to Michigan including new jobs in manufacturing wind turbine components, maintenance and installation.

The Great Lakes Regional Wind Energy Institute Annual Meeting was held on March 1-2, 2010 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Attendees heard presentations on a variety of topics, including: transmission planning and strategy for the great lakes region, wind project economics, renewable energy credit markets and state renewable portfolio standards, and challenges and opportunities in siting wind projects. Detroit, MI - One of the most significant barriers to the growth in deployment of mid-size turbines in the United States is the lack of turbines; there are few mid-size turbines on the market today. To fill this technology gap, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will launch a Mid-size Wind Turbine Development Project in FY 2010 to facilitate the development and commercialization of mid-size wind turbines.

A workshop for Michigan’s renewable energy, planning and zoning for wind energy will take place Monday, March 30, at the St. Clair County Don Dodge Auditorium, 200 Grand River Ave., Port Huron.

Kalamazoo, MI

The Michigan Agri-Energy Conference will be held on March 30-31 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This conference focuses on wind farm development as well as broader aspects of creating renewable energy businesses in areas including solar cells, geothermal heat pumps, and the conversion of biomass into biofuels.
