WoWE Mentoring Program
Women of Wind Energy is introducing a new mentoring program for women entering the wind energy industry, or those already in the industry who are interested in improving and advancing their careers.
Join us in Houston for the 2008 WoWE Luncheon at WINDPOWER 2008 to learn more about this exciting new program. Details will be announced then, and online participation will be available in June 2008.

Woman of the Year Award
It is the intent of the Women of Wind Energy (WoWE) to recognize one woman each year who has contributed to the expansion and improvement of the wind energy industry. This contribution can be made as the president of a company or as a woman working behind-the-scenes to resolve critical wind energy issues. She can be working in a legal, technical, business or advocacy role for the wind industry. She can be working in nearly any facet and on any aspect of wind energy in North America. The purpose of the WoWE Woman of the Year award is to recognize a myriad of different female wind energy professionals, but choose one woman each year who truly stands out for their significant contribution.
The award is presented each spring at the annual WoWE luncheon during the WINDPOWER conference. While nomnations for each year's award have a due date in the spring of the year, we accept nominations at any time.

2007 Woman of the Year Award
Jan Hamrin, President of the Center for Resource Solutions, received the second Woman of the Year Award in 2007.
2006 Woman of the Year Award
Jan Blittersdorf, CEO of NRG Systems, Inc., received the first ever Wind Woman of the Year Award in 2006 for her outstanding work in the field of wind energy and a passion for renewables.

Rookie of the Year Award
It is the intent of Women of Wind Energy (WoWE) to recognize one woman each year who is newer to the wind industry than many of us, and who has contributed to the expansion and improvement of the wind energy industry. This contribution can be made as the woman working behind-the-scenes, or out front leading the way to resolve critical wind energy issues. The purpose of the WoWE Rookie of the Year award is to recognize a myriad of younger female wind energy professionals, but to choose one woman each year who truly stands out for her significant contribution.
We will present this award at the annual WoWE luncheon during the WINDPOWER conference this June.
Nomination Criteria
· Must have at least five years experience in the wind energy industry.
· May be working in a legal, technical, business or advocacy role for the wind energy industry.
· Must have demonstrated leadership in her work, and significant personal or professional accomplishments during her time in the wind energy industry.
· May be working in nearly any facet, and on any aspect of wind industry in the United States.

NY and NJ WoWE Happy Hour
Kris Ohleth from Bluewater Wind and Amy McGinty from Community Energy, Inc. would like to invite NY and NJ-area WoWE members to a Happy Hour hosted by Bluewater Wind in at Oddfellows Rest in Hoboken, New Jersey on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 6pm.
Hoboken is right across the Hudson River from Manhattan, and is an easy 10 minute Path Train ride from downtown NYC. Oddfellows is a very short walk from the Hoboken Path Station (see map below).

Background:
The WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition is an annual event sponsored by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). This year's conference, which will take place June 1-4, 2008 in Houston, Texas, is expected to bring together over 7,000 energy professionals and 400 exhibiting companies. Women of Wind Energy (WoWE) is a group of female professionals working in the wind energy industry (www.windustry.org/womenofwindenergy). The goal of the Rudd Mayer Memorial Sponsorship is to encourage the participation of women from all sectors of the energy industry, at the annual WINDPOWER 2008 Conference. The conference will offer the selected candidate(s) the opportunity to attend seminars on current wind energy issues, see exhibits on state of the art technology, meet distinguished women professionals, and talk with leading employers offering internships or permanent positions.
Sponsorship Amount:
The sponsorship will cover the cost of airfare, ground transportation to and from the airport, conference registration, meals, and lodging. If additional funds are available, some partial sponsorships may be awarded.
Who May Apply:
In general, the sponsorship is available to any woman who is interested in a career in the wind energy industry. Sponsorees are selected from all sectors of the wind industry including academic, service, maintenance, manufacturing, consulting, engineering, and finance.
Evaluation Criteria:
Applicants will be selected based on demonstrated interest in renewable energy technologies, academic achievement, work experience and the applicant's potential for future contributions to the wind energy community. Although women who currently work in wind energy may apply, preference will be given to students nearing degree completion, recent graduates and women interested in a career transition into the wind industry.

The application consists of a resume and one-page essay describing your interest and any previous experience in wind energy, your career goals, reasons for wanting to attend the WINDPOWER 2008 Conference, and how attendance at this conference will benefit you and your community, campus, or organization in these or future leadership roles. Also, describe any special circumstances or financial needs of which you feel we should be aware. If you are a student or recent graduate, please send an unofficial transcript.

WoWE Meet-Up in Boston
The women of Second Wind Inc. would like to invite you to join us for the inaugural meeting of the Women of Wind Energy Boston Chapter. We feel this is an ideal forum to encourage networking, discussion of current issues facing the wind industry, and a chance to plan for future get togethers. We will also be holding a raffle to benefit the WoWE Scholarship Fund.
